Adult Swim's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Gets a Substantial Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.
During the fall season, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, shortly thereafter, the channel unveiled a fresh animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns proved to be heartwarming and calm, evoking a animated take of a serene talk show. At a time often characterized by bleakness, this show's sincerity found an audience and turned it into a breakout hit.
A Significant Investment
On December 18th, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four key characters.
"I’m so grateful to the fans of the show who took a chance on the show and spread the word," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for seasons to come."
A President's Endorsement
In the same announcement commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and supported its uniquely offbeat appeal.
"All of you got behind this new show, rooted for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something unexpectedly cozy about observing this endearing family navigate their daily lives.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his goal to help comedy break out of its long-running sarcastic tone. He attributed this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
The Path Forward
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa could potentially be part of that comedic shift. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences a little more time to experience the warm glow of the endearing Campbell clan.
The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
