British tennis star Emma Raducanu ends the current season and plans to retain trainer through next year.

The British player reached the third round in three of the four Grand Slams this year.

Britain's Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from her remaining competitions of the year as a result of a health issue she has been fighting over the past 10 days.

The 22-year-old was scheduled to compete in Tokyo and Hong Kong but opted to return home to regain her health before starting next year's training.

Those preparations will include coach Francisco Roig, as they have decided to continue collaborating for the upcoming season.

The tennis professional underwent blood pressure monitoring while playing the initial match with Ann Li in Wuhan and retired when trailing 6-1 4-1 on an oppressively humid day.

She needed once more a visit from the doctor at the recent Ningbo Open, where she lost in three sets to Zhu Lin, a Chinese wildcard in round one.

Raducanu was also moving far from freely in the third set in the match with Zhu because of back discomfort that has troubled her on several occasions in 2025.

These outcomes signaled a promising season, in which Raducanu rose into the world's top 30 after more than three years for the first time since 2022, finished with a trio of defeats.

Raducanu had three match points before losing to Pegula in the third round in the Beijing tournament last month.

She secured twenty-eight matches in the current season and made it to the semi-final round in Washington, but the highlight of her season was at the Miami event in March.

Ranked first in Britain reached the quarter-finals of this WTA 1000 tournament, overcoming Emma Navarro, the eighth seed en route before losing in three sets to Pegula, ranked fourth.

She was coached by trainer Mark Petchey between Miami and Wimbledon, with Roig assuming the role ahead of the US Open.

The initial agreement with the former trainer of Nadal was until the end of the season but they will keep working together, with planned training sessions late this year.

She mentioned that a three-day test period with Roig after Wimbledon was like a "covert operation" as they tried to keep the meeting secret.

She nearly succeeded to defeating top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka at their first tournament together in Cincinnati in August.

Roig was also with Raducanu in the New York tournament, where she advanced to round three before being beaten by Elena Rybakina, the 2022 Wimbledon winner.
