The detonation happened on the evening of Friday at the Nowgam police station, where blast substances taken from Faridabad in the northern state of Haryana province were being held provisionally.
Area law enforcement head stated that the explosives were awaiting forensic examination when a "deeply regrettable" accident during management resulted in their detonation at approximately 11:20 PM local.

Multiple vehicles were "engulfed in flames and reduced to charred husks, with debris scattered across the location," according to police accounts.
"The intensity of the blast was so extreme that some human remains were recovered from close-by residences, approximately 100-200 metres away the police station," reported an official source.
The bulk of the fatalities were security officials, along with technical investigation team, two crime scene photographers, and a tailor who was present with the personnel.
