Colts Battle Atlanta Falcons in Berlin – Week 10 NFL Action

Hello, football enthusiasts. How are you? Alles klar I hope on this excellent early start to week 10 coming directly from Germany. Berlin's Olympic Stadium to be precise where at 8.30am CST/9.30am EST and 2.30pm GMT the powerful Indianapolis Colts (seven wins and two losses) face off against the Falcons (three wins and five losses). This marks the fifth matchup played on soil in Germany and the first in the nation’s capital.

Pre-match Key Moments

As sparkly jackets go that is an absolute belter from Katarina Witt on the coin toss. A minor slip from the broadcast team there as we hear “who won the toss?” from the commentator with an unfortunately hot mic.

Well, the Colts have won the toss and have chosen to get the ball first. Daniel Jones and company will be taking the field soon. Can the quarterback recover after a difficult performance in their last game?

In a similar vein the vocalist performing the US national anthem has some of the biggest shoulder embellishments you are bound to notice. Loving the sartorial choices today. We are almost underway after a choral number for the national anthem of Germany. Classy.

First Quarter Gameplay

Scoreless at 13:30 in the first

Here we go! And we have early drama after Jonathan Taylor receives a short throw, sweeps out for 15 yards to the right side then fumbles … only for his offensive lineman to save his bacon with the recovery. Indianapolis quickly moves into Atlanta's half.

Colts 0-0 Falcons 10:51, 1st quarter

And the excitement continues as the Indianapolis attempts a fourth-down conversion. The risk doesn't work out as Josh Downs cannot reel in a fastball from Jones. On the play before the turnover on downs the Falcons defender put a massive tackle on tight end Mo Alie-Cox. Atlanta's defense started strong as they attempt to end their string of three losses. Next up Sauce Garner’s debut!

Touchdown Recap

First score: Colts lead 6-0 at 8:36

Was that a missed touchdown by Kyle Pitts? The tight end drops a clanger, he was very open but the ball just slips through his grasp. That play rather sums up the high draft pick's professional journey to date.

So far, so disappointing but it only deteriorates for the Atlanta as they cough the ball back to the Indianapolis on the 23-yard mark. Michael Penix Jr is hunted down and can’t keep hold of the ball.

An agile 22-yard rush from the Colts receiver sets Jonathan Taylor up to easily run for a touchdown on the following play. Kicker Michael Badgley misses the point after attempt. Mistake.

TOUCHDOWN! Colts 6-7 Falcons 6:07, 1st quarter

Penix Jr puts the fumble behind him by marching his Falcons down the field for a score of their own. The wide receiver makes some substantial catches to put them in the scoring area then the defense opens up for the running back to saunter on to the goal line through the middle of the defense for 13 yards. The running back finishes it off for a one-yard touchdown of his own. The Falcons take the lead.

Other Tenth Week Games

And for afters, the full slate starting at 1 PM EST and 6 PM GMT (with home teams first) is as follows:

  • (5-4) Carolina Panthers v Saints (1-8)

  • (5-3) Chicago Bears v New York Giants (2-7)

  • (3-5) Texans v Jacksonville Jaguars (5-3)

  • (2-7) Miami Dolphins v Buffalo Bills (6-2)

  • (4-4) Vikings v Baltimore Ravens (3-5)

  • (1-7) New York Jets v Browns (2-6)

  • (6-2) Tampa Bay Buccaneers v Patriots (7-2)

An exciting lineup. I’m planting my flag on Minnesota and Baltimore playing out the top contest of the day.
