An extensive manufacturing complex located on the outskirts of the capital is dealing with radioactive contamination following a government team found presence of the hazardous isotope Caesium-137 at twenty-two manufacturing plants within the site, that includes companies shipping chilled seafood.

The FDA stated: “The primary health effect of concern following extended, repeated small amount contact (eg through eating of polluted products or liquid over time) is an increased chance of cancer, caused by harm to DNA within living cells.”

Widespread Pollution and Health Examinations

Radioactivity scans revealed at least 22 plants in the industrial zone were contaminated. The Indonesian team did not name the twenty-one additional manufacturing facilities, but said they would promptly receive cleanup procedures conducted by the country's atomic energy authority.

The environment minister stated that residents living in highly polluted zones would be relocated until the location was cleaned, adding that the safety of the residents was the “main concern”.
