Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Allegations Involving Player the Athlete

The NFL franchise released a comment Wednesday night indicating they are aware of domestic violence allegations made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and had been in contact with the league office.

The team did not mention the player by name in their announcement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Allegations Shared on Social Media

The woman, who also did not mention Rice by name, posted a set of images on Instagram that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. She stated the individual in question was the father of her children, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.

Police Reports Currently Not on File

No police reports were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.

Player's Prior Legal Issues

Rice missed the first six games of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in instigating a crash on a Dallas highway that left several individuals hurt. Rice was sentenced 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to felony charges.

On the field, he finished the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a ten-year span.
