A servicemember of the Air National Guard is on the mend after he was gravely wounded in an targeted attack last month in Washington DC.

The parents of Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four, say "his head wound is slowly healing and that he's starting to 'regain his familiar appearance,'" stated West Virginia Governor the governor.

The family anticipates the military non-commissioned officer to be in acute care for the coming fortnight, and they feel hopeful about his progress, said the governor.

Staff Sgt Wolfe was one of two state guardsmen injured by gunfire when a shooter began shooting in proximity to the presidential residence on November 26th. His colleague, 20-year-old Sarah Beckstrom, succumbed to her wounds.

"Our request remains for all state residents and Americans for their thoughts and prayers!" Morrisey declared.

Morrisey attended a candlelight gathering on Friday evening for the injured soldier at Musselman High School in his hometown, where the guardsman was once a student.

A pastor at the event read a statement from the guardsman's mother and father, his family.

"We know that there is a difficult journey to go," they wrote, according to local news outlet outlets.

"But our faith keeps us optimistic. We remain grateful for the prayers and the encouragement from people all over the world."

Earlier in the week, the governor said the serviceman had responded to a nurse with a thumbs-up and was able to wiggle his feet.

Law enforcement have charged the alleged gunman, an Afghan national named Rahmanullah Lakanwal, with first-degree murder and attempted murder.

Prior to his arrival to the United States in two years ago, he was once a member of a special forces unit in a CIA-backed unit that worked with US forces in Afghanistan.

Staff Sgt Wolfe was one of two thousand National Guard members whom the former president dispatched to the Washington DC in August as part of his immigration and crime-related crackdown in Democratic-led cities.

In the aftermath of the shooting, Trump said he desired another 500 military personnel deployed to the District of Columbia.

The Trump administration has also cited the attack as a justification for further immigration crackdown measures.

They have halted naturalization proceedings for foreign nationals from 19 countries that were part of a travel ban implemented over the recent season, including the suspect's home country.
