US President Trump has announced he is raising duties on goods imported from Canadian sources after the territory of the Ontario government aired an anti-import tax advertisement using former President Ronald Reagan.

In a Truth Social post on Saturday, Trump called the commercial a "misrepresentation" and condemned Canada's authorities for not removing it ahead of the MLB finals.

"Due to their major distortion of the truth, and aggressive move, I am hiking the import tax on Canada by 10% over and above what they are being charged now," he wrote.

Subsequent to Donald Trump on last Thursday ended trade talks with Canadian officials, the Ontario's leader announced he would take down the advertisement.

The Province Response

Doug Ford Ford declared on Friday that he would halt his region's anti-tariff advertisement campaign in the America, telling reporters that he chose after consultations with Prime Minister the Canadian PM "so that commercial discussions can restart".

He noted it would remain broadcast over the weekend, during matches for the World Series, which includes the Toronto team facing the Dodgers.

Commercial Context

The Canadian nation is the only G7 nation that has not secured a deal with the US since Trump commenced attempting to impose steep import taxes on goods from major commercial allies.

The United States has already enforced a 35 percent duty on all Canada's goods - though most are free under an present free trade agreement. It has furthermore applied sector-specific levies on Canada's items, including a 50% duty on metals and twenty-five percent on cars.

In his message, published while he was flying to Asia, Donald Trump seemed to say he was imposing an additional 10% to these duties.

75% of Canada's exported goods are sent to the US, and the province is host to the largest share of Canada's car production.

Reagan Ad Details

The advertisement, which was funded by the Ontario authorities, quotes ex-President Reagan, a Republican and symbol of American conservatism, saying import taxes "damage all Americans".

The advertisement uses clips from a 1987 broadcast that focused on international trade.

The Reagan Foundation, which is charged with protecting the ex-president's memory, had criticized the advert for using "carefully chosen" sound and footage and claimed it distorted the former president's speech. It additionally stated the Ontario authorities had not sought permission to use it.

Ongoing Tensions

In his message on Truth Social on Saturday, the President stated that the advert should have been taken down sooner.

"Ontario's Commercial was to be pulled IMMEDIATELY, but they let it run yesterday during the World Series, realizing that it was a FRAUD," he posted, while flying to Asia.

Doug Ford had earlier promised to broadcast the Ronald Reagan commercial in every Republican area in the America.

Each of Donald Trump and Carney will be attending the Southeast Asian summit in the Malaysian nation, but Trump informed reporters joining him aboard Air Force One that he does not have any "desire" of conferring with his Canadian counterpart during the visit.

In his update, Trump also accused Canadian officials of seeking to influence an forthcoming Supreme Court legal case which could terminate his whole tax system.

The case, to be reviewed by the highest US court next month, will rule on whether the duties are lawful.

On last Thursday, Donald Trump also lashed out, claiming that the advertisement was designed to "tamper" with "THE MOST IMPORTANT CASE EVER"

MLB Finals Connection

The advertisement is not the only way that the region – location of the Toronto team – is using the baseball championship as a opportunity to criticise Trump's import taxes.

In a recording shared on last Friday, Ford and Governor Gavin Newsom playfully placed wagers about which side would succeed in the championship.

Both men repeatedly joked about tariffs in the clip, with the Premier vowing to deliver the Governor a container of syrup if the Dodgers win.

"The tariff might charge me a few extra bucks at the border these days, but it'll be acceptable," he stated.

In reply, Governor Newsom asked Ford to continue enabling American alcohol to be available in province liquor stores, and vowed to deliver "California's premium vino" if the Toronto team triumph.

They finished their conversation each stating: "To a fantastic MLB finals, and a tariff-free friendship between the region and the state."
