Slot Asserts He Feels Secure and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was expected for questions to be asked about his future following a further heavy defeat against the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their 9th defeat in 12 games, marking the club's worst run since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I've received plenty of support from the top,” Slot remarked.
“It would be great to turn it around and secure a win of course but when you're in a managerial role and struggling then it is normal that people question you.”
He continued, “I am OK with my role. It is not the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach revealed:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive to the team and to me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me constantly of the day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “Through standard exchanges I perceive the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them after this match yet so let’s see.”
Persistent Problems and Player Response
The manager expressed regret over recurring shortcomings from his squad in their European loss, namely missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder said.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He added, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a phase such as this with performances so bad.”
Jones concluded, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And until it is taken away, we'll continue to compete.”
“Our aim is to get this team back to its rightful place, show everyone again the values of this club and why it's known as the greatest side in the world.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
