The beloved crime series AC-12 is officially returning for its seventh installment, announced by the broadcaster.

A brand new six-part season created by Jed Mercurio will begin filming in Northern Ireland this spring, according to the network.

The actress expressed excitement about the comeback, stating she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Her co-star remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together soon."

The last series concluded in recent years with a final episode that drew in more than 17 million viewers. Rumors about a new season have been widespread ever since, but confirmation only arrived this week.

Fresh Obstacles for AC-12

Series seven will open with AC-12 having been disbanded and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to the announcement.

Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue working to tackle misconduct within the law enforcement.

The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, the trio are assigned their "most sensitive case to date."

New Character and Intricate Plot

An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer celebrated for takedowns of criminal networks, faces allegations of abusing his position to act as a sexual predator.

However, this investigation could be a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat still operating in the shadows, plot details hinted.

Speaking about the renewal, the creator commented: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans."

"It's an honor to have had so many followers watch the developments of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be coming back for a new season."

He added: "Misconduct in this country is supposed to have ended while the series was off air, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."

Actor Responses

The Scottish actor described being part of the police drama as "the role of a career".

"Beyond the show's success but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."

"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he said.

Vicky McClure remarked: "Obviously I'm so excited Line of Duty is back! Can't wait to work with the creator, Martin and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"

The veteran actor noted: "While anticipating the AC-12 days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming soon."

"Pleased with the announcement and anticipating those mercurial twists and turns."

Show History

The drama launched in 2012 and became a highly successful TV dramas of the past ten years, attracting notable actors such as Lennie James.

Broadcasters haven't revealed when the upcoming series will premiere.

The finale of series six drew the long-running storyline about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "H" to a close, and producers indicated at the moment there were no plans for additional seasons.

Nevertheless, the network announced on Tuesday that a new season is now in development.
