News has broken that beloved actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are set to appear once again in the next chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The film is currently in production.

An Important Return to Panem

The actors will once again portray Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the roles they originated. Speculation suggests their roles will probably be featured in a future-set scene, considering the original saga concluded with their characters living in peace.

This represents the sixth cinematic outing in the global Hunger Games franchise.

The Source Material

Sunrise on the Reaping is based upon a newly published work by series creator Suzanne Collins. It acts as the second film set before the original story after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Once again is Francis Lawrence, who has helmed the majority of the previous films in the series.

A New Era in Panem

The film's events are set roughly two decades prior to the first Hunger Games, focusing on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, who would later become Katniss's mentor, is featured as a tribute in the notorious 50th Hunger Games.

The cast also includes several notable actors in important characters:

• Jesse Plemons steps into the role of Plutarch Heavensbee.
• Ralph Fiennes will appear as a earlier incarnation of the menacing President Snow.

Current Projects and Release Timeline

Separately, Jennifer Lawrence has been nominated for a Golden Globe for the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson stars in the sequel to the hit horror film Five Nights at Freddy's 2.

Regarding the shoot:

1. Principal photography started in the summer of 2025.
2. Filming was completed in November of the same year.
3. The much-discussed film is scheduled for November 2026 theatrical debut.
