The Red Devils Poised to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for United
Schüller, who has six months remaining on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL team.
Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a major uplift to the team's forward line. Schüller has been highly reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Old Trafford
Securing the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought additional business:
- The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
